I don’t know about you, but Chemistry sure wasn’t something that came easy to me! Remembering periodic tables and trying to get a grasp on what it all meant was a bit difficult to say the least. If this is the case for you or your kids, you’ll be happy to know that there is now something to help.
Ted-Ed has put together a brilliant presentation of chemistry videos – great for anyone who has ever struggled with remembering periodic tables (I think that would be most of us!) and making sense of chemistry itself. There is a video presentation for every single element on the periodic table and they have made them fun with experiments and explanations that are easy to understand, and most importantly – interesting. You can see all these videos here.
The Periodic Videos are great for kids who are struggling in school as well as homeschooled kids. Homeschooled kids often miss out on these lessons, as perhaps a lot of parents are not so well equipped in this area. But it’s certainly a good idea to teach them these things, as you don’t know what their futures hold. Maybe they’ll want to study medicine or go into engineering. Maybe they’ll want to get into food chemistry or be a science writer. There are lots of careers that require a basic understanding of chemistry.
Chemistry can provide us with knowledge of how many things around us works. Offering our kids solid foundation to better understand how their bodies work and why, is a smart idea. And now with this Ted-Ed platform, we all have easy access to the information – and certainly don’t need to be experts ourselves.
So, take a look at the Ted-Ed videos and decide for yourself. I’m sure you’ll agree that they’re fun and worth sharing with your kids.
Also, take a look at Daniel Radcliffe singing The Elements Song – it’s really cute. And if it looks like something that you or your kids would like to learn – check out this one, which has the lyrics written out – pretty fun!
