Have you ever bought a windscreen mount that keeps on falling off every time you turn a corner or run over a pebble?
You are not alone!
I have had so many windscreen mounts that drive me nuts because you seem to spend more time trying to get the darn things to stay in position than you do using them. If you finally get one that sticks, how often can you rely on it to hold your heavier devices in position without slipping and sagging?
I hear you and see you nodding your head in agreement – well I think I have found something to put up with your punishment!
I had a chat with Will from Gear2go and he set me up with what I think is the “Ultimate Windscreen Mount”!
Let me tell you everything from the beginning…..
I spoke to Will about what I needed, and where we were going. Will said to me “No Problem!” and within a couple of days I had the mount in my hands.
The first thing I noticed in the packaging was the American flag and the words “Made in the USA”. I thought “this could be good!”
The mount I was unwrapping was a RAM Mount package called - The complete X-Grip Mounting System.
This is what I got:
- – RAM X-Grip holder (RAM-HOL-UN8BU)
- – 3.3″ suction cup (RAM-B-224-1U)
- – long double socket mounting arm (RAM-B-201U-C)
Each part came individually wrapped and assembly was a breeze….. The hardest part was remembering where I put my screwdriver to connect the ball mount to the suction cup!
So after literally 2 minutes, I had the mount together and positioned it on the windscreen. The mounting arm allows you to move your screen into position and locks into place by turning the knob on the mounting arm and Viola – you are done!
After road testing this mount on our trip, I must admit that I was completely impressed! I had my iPad in its heavy duty protective sleeve sitting on the mount for over 9500 kms (5900 miles) in all sorts of road conditions and I did not have to touch anything through the entire trip! We drove on sealed roads, dirt roads, corrugated roads, 4×4 tracks, through ruts, river crossings, over rocks and all sorts of horrifically bumpy and rough situations….. I was more concerned about losing my teeth than I was about the mount falling off!
Check out some video footage of the terrain we were driving!
Since using these RAM Mounts I have decided to throw out the other “junk” that does not stick and replace everything with RAM!
