If you are anything like me, you just want to buy things that work.
One of my pet hates is plastic kitchen containers. Have you ever spent your hard earned money on plastic containers that promise the earth only to be disappointed? I have – and over the years I have spent so much money on Decor, Tuppaware, SuperLock and so many others, only to find that they have all failed in a short time. They leak, their lids stop fitting, they crack – they just fail!
Well a few years ago I came across “Lock & Lock” at a demonstration stall. The display caught my eye because there was a container with cotton candy in it submerged in an aquarium full of water! I asked the presenter if she had sealed the container with silicone sealant when she called me over. She gave me a small container, told me to take it home and cut up some watermelon into small cubes, put them into the container, place the container into the fridge and leave it there for 1 week. Then she told me to open the container and try a piece….. I thanked her and as I walked away, she said to me “See you in a couple of weeks!”
I was skeptical, but I thought that I had nothing to lose! Anyway, I went home and cut up some watermelon and did what I was asked to do. I love experiments and could not wait! 2 weeks later, I took the container out of the fridge (it got lost somewhere in the back of the fridge and I totally forgot about it!) and tasted the watermelon! WOW! It was still fresh and crispy, just like the day I put it there!
Here is an example of why you should not buy copies.
That weekend, we went back to the store and tracked down the “Lock & Lock” presenter and organised to meet her at a secluded carpark. Now don’t think we were being dodgy here, we just wanted to make a deal! You see, we had just picked up our Jayco Caravan (Travel Trailer for our USA friends!) and wanted to fill it with Lock & Lock containers. That was back in 2009.
I still have these containers and use them daily. What I love about them is that they still work perfectly after all this time! I use them in the freezer, in the fridge, microwave, pantry, for hiking, 4wding, camping, school lunches (gee do these ones get a beating!) and heaps of other purposes. Sure some of them are getting a little scratched up now, but they all still seal and clean up easily.
Here is a time saving way you can use your Lock & Lock containers….. Check out how I make scrambled eggs!
For this year’s 4wd trip to Cape York, I purchased a few more containers to fit my Waeco Car Fridge. Check out how many of these containers I can fit in it!
And this is me cooking them on my “Happy Call” Double Grill Pan
Since my initial purchase, I have increased my collection to include some of their newer ranges that include cookware and oven proof glassware that is perfect for RV’s, motorhomes and caravans (travel trailers!). Even the glass range comes with lids that seal of course! I just love their product!
