They say Melbourne is the most livable city in the world and hosting fun festivals like The Color Run, among many, many other wonderful festivals, makes the city not just the most livable, but also super fun.
If you’ve been reading our magazine, you know by now that we are great fans of The Color Run festival, which seems to be popping up all around the world.
The Color Run started back in 2011 as an event to promote health and happiness. Every year the run is getting more and more popular and is now the largest event series in the United States. You can now find The Color Runs in over 30 countries across the world! Pretty cool!
Just last weekend we joined 23,000 people on the ‘happiest 5K run in the planet’. When you buy your ticket, you get geared up with a bright white t-shirt, colourful headband, wristband and temporary tattoos – that many were proud to display on their faces.
You then join the crowd and head for the start line. A few hundred people are ‘released’ at a time to allow everybody the room to run or walk if they so choose, without invading other people’s spaces. For such a large event, we were surprised in how well it was organized.
The Color Run is definitely an event that appeals to everybody – there were young people, older people, athletes, people in wheelchairs, a huge number of families (many with strollers / prams) and lots and lots of kids.
During your run / walk, you go through 6 different ‘gates’ where you get decorated in powdered food colouring. Each gate is a different colour, so by the time you hit the finish line, you’re painted in a rainbow of colours!
Once you finish the loop, you get to join the super colourful crowd for some super fun dancing – it’s one awesome party!
Be sure you put The Color Run on your ‘to do list’ next time they are in a town near you. You can check out where they’re headed next by clicking here.
